U-Pick Bouquet Care Guide

We're so glad you joined us for Lavender U-Pick Days! Now that you have a lavender bouquet (or several) that you picked yourself, you might be wondering how to care for it and what you can do with it. We've got you covered with this U-Pick Bouquet Care Guide.

Enjoy your fresh lavender bouquet

You picked your lavender fresh from the field, so you might as well enjoy it that way! Put your lavender in your favorite vase with only a half inch of water. Replace the water every day. Lavender doesn't have a super long vase life, so after a few days it's best to dry your bouquet. That way, it'll last forever!

A different option is to hang your fresh bundle in your shower. The steam will release the lavender scent for an extra relaxing shower time!

Dry your lavender bouquet

When you're ready to dry your lavender bouquet, all you'll need is a rubber band, a paper clip, and somewhere dark to hang it. First, cut off the bottom of the stems that have been in water. Next, put the rubber band around the stems of your bouquet. Then unfold your paper clip into an "s" shape and hook one end onto the rubber band. Hang your bouquet upside down in a dark room. Drying it in the dark helps it retain its color. It will take at least a few days to dry completely.

What to do with your dried lavender

Here's a few ideas for what to do with your dried lavender bouquet:

  • Put it back in a vase (no water this time!). Your dried lavender bouquet will last forever! Lavender buds can hold their scent for years. Gently rub the buds and you'll immediately smell the soothing scent of lavender again. If kept somewhere bright, the buds will fade over time. But just come back and pick more next year!

  • Make a sachet! To remove the buds from your dried stems, take a few stems at a time and rub the flower heads between your hands over a bowl. They should come off pretty easily. It's ok if there's some leaves and petals too. Just pull out any big stem pieces. Then put your buds in a thin fabric bag and you've got a sachet you can use to freshen a drawer, closet, car, etc. Enjoy!

  • Freshen your carpet! Remove the buds the same way as above, but this time sprinkle them on your carpet before you vacuum. This will leave your whole house smelling great! And your vacuum will even smell good next time too.
