Hi there! This is Dallas--lavender farmer here at Solace Lavender Farm. One of my favorite uses of culinary lavender is in my morning cup of coffee. For our culinary buds, we grow English lavender (specifically lavandula angustifolia, "Folgate") which adds the perfect balance of sweet and floral flavor to your morning coffee.
My lavender coffee recipe is super simple but the trick is using just the right amount of lavender. I make coffee in a French press, but this will work with pretty much any method of brewing.
Step 1: Grind your coffee beans. We all know they're better when freshly ground!
Step 2: Add your grounds to your French press or coffee maker.
Step 3: This is the important one! Add just a pinch of our culinary lavender to your coffee grounds. Too much will result in more of an herby flavor (kind of like rosemary). Start with one small pinch per cup the first time and dial in your preferred flavor over time.
Step 4: Brew it! For my French press, I add almost-boiling water and let it brew for 4 minutes.
Step 5: Pour into your favorite mug with a little honey and milk. Enjoy!
Note: Not all lavender is the same. There's actually hundreds of different varieties and they're not all good for eating. It's important that you only use culinary lavender for recipes like this. To get your own jar of culinary lavender, you can find ours here. We grow it, harvest it, dry it, and bottle it right here on the farm. It's the good stuff!
Let us know if you're a lavender coffee fan or if you have your own tips and tricks!
